So I'm thinking about doing the century, but have yet to do more than 50 miles. Is this something you guys would recomend, or should I get more mileage under my belt first?

Steve,

You will probably get a lot of response from some folks a lot more qualified than I. Here are two _link_ that may be helpful...

http://bicycling.about.com/od/trainingandfitness/ a/century.htm

http://www.ultracycling.com/training/century.html

The Second _link_ is the most helpful. I used one of their plans more or less to do a 3 day 250 mile ride - it all worked out good.

You mentioned not going over 50 miles - I looked at my log - did not much over 60 miles for training but did do a lot of winter time spinning.

When I did my first century last year, the most I had ridden at one time was around 40 miles, so I think that doing the century would be ok. The good thing about these rides is that most have check points every so many miles which gives you time to relax and get some good stuff in your stomach before starting again.
